Summer offerings for interested high school students
Innovation Center

The Innovation Center will be offering both in person and online classes over the summer to interested students. The courses will take place either virtually or in-person at the Innovation Center from June 7th - July 1st. The schedule for the classes are as follows: 

  • Morning Session (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM): 
  • (In-Person) CompTIA IT Fundamentals 

Afternoon Session (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM): 

  • (Online) Introduction to Augmented and Virtual Reality Technologies
  • (In-Person) Intro to Cybersecurity
  • (Online) Design Foundations

Morning Session Offerings 

(In-Person) CompTia Fundamentals (.5) Available for 10-12th Grade

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m..

Open to all 9 - 12th graders

Students who pass this class will pay for their own certification test - $90

This in-person course introduces students to the Information Technology field; including computer hardware & software support, customer service, networking, security, and computer design. This class is a precursor to CompTIA A+, and is intended for beginners with very little computer knowledge. Students who succeed in this class will be ready to take the CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification. This class is for 10-12th graders (9th grade can be approved by instructor ONLY) 

Afternoon Session Offerings 

(Online) Introduction to Augmented and Virtual Reality Technologies (.5) Available for 9th - 12th Grade (ONLINE)

  • .5 credits 

  • 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • Open to all 9-12th graders (No prerequisites)

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to step into the artwork that you are creating? Virtual reality technology allows you to do just that! This online course will guide you through drawing, sculpting, and graffiti mural making within the virtual world. Get a taste of art history and learn the language of art while you are at it!

(In-Person) Intro to Cybersecurity (.5) Available for 9-12th Grade

  • Open to all 9-12th graders (No prerequisites)

508,000 That is the number of jobs that are currently unfilled in the field of Cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is an in-demand field that affects all industries. Cybersecurity threats are ongoing and pose risks for individuals and corporations alike. In this course, students will learn how to protect themselves and businesses from these attackers. This in-person course at the Innovation Center will delve into the following topics: Citizen Security, Encryption, Types of Attacks, Networking, Cyber Defense, Ethics and Law, and Risk Management. We will use hands-on activities with industry tools to engage students.

(ONLINE) Design Foundations (.5) Available to 9-12th Grade

  • .5 credits

  • 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • Open to all 9 - 12th graders

The online instructor led course is the first course in the Design Pathway. This course is the prerequisite course for other design courses, and will provide students a strong foundation in design principles and techniques such as design thinking, basic sketching, basic drafting techniques, basic sketchbooking, design observation, prototyping, design analysis and critiquing. As part of the course, students will be lent an Oculus headset.
