Ventures & Competitive Teams
Students are able to join competitive teams at the Innovation Center and pursue specific ventures. Our teams compete against the highest levels of competition regionally, statewide, and nationally.
The FIRST Robotics Challenge is an international robotics competition where high school students design and compete with robots in a ‘cooperation’ style game. Designed to inspire students and enhance student understanding of STEM, FIRST Robotics is one of the mot fierce and longest standing robotics challenges around. The innovation center is home to FIRST Team 7891 INOV8, which is in its second year, and has already gone to the world finals during its first year. We welcome students 15 and holder to join. The season goes from January to May.
The Innovation Center supports a highly successful competitive VEX robotics team, 6047S-Semi-Colon. Coming to us from Westview Middle School, Semi-Colon – whose team members attend three different high schools – are based at the Innovation Center. They are coming off of a very successful 2018-19 season, where they won multiple awards at the Colorado State Championship as well as finishing 6th in their division at the VEX World Championship. They are looking forward to another successful year!
NREL Solar Car Competitions
Every year the National Renewable Energy Laboratory sponsors middle school student teams to design, develop and race their very own race cars using either solar power or a rechargeable lithium battery. Students learn how to use renewable energy to power race cars which they design, test, and then take to the tracks to compete against teams from across Colorado. Open to Middle school students grade 6-8 and hosted at the innovation center.
