Mill Safety Badge Icon

At the Innovation Center we have the ability to make any concept into a reality using the different machines and tools that we have throughout the building. All of these tools are available for students to operate during and after their classes. In order to ensure that students are working with these tools safely, we have created the Mill Safety Badge.

The Mill Safety Badge is focused on the operational safety associated with saws, drilling, sanders, a paint booth, and more. The course is broken down into three core areas: Wood, Metal, and Common Tools.

After completing this badge, the recipient can:

  • Identify the appropriate safety equipment associated with specified projects pertaining to painting, sawing, drilling, and cutting of both metal and wood.
  • Understand how to use a drill, drill press, and the appropriate bits.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the different types of sanders including: orbital, spindle, and disk.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to operate a variety of different saws which includes, chop, miter, table, scroll, and jig.
